Everyone’s always asked me what “Tuesday’s Coming” is about. To be honest, I’m not completely sure myself. I was starting a new chapter in my life back in 2007. I had just quit the indie-rock band I was working with in order to study music formally at Humber College.
I loved playing in the band, but felt that I had more to learn and explore that fell in a different direction. Once I was introduced to jazz from a student’s point of view my mind was blown. I was put in an environment where we were constantly being challenged and tested on such a personal and beautiful part of ourselves.
I found myself overwhelmed with excitement, curiosity and fear all at once. I took a bit of a songwriting break because I was still starting to digest all of the theory and beauty in jazz music. “Tuesday’s Coming” is the first song I wrote while studying at Humber.
This song has gone through many transformations along the way and I couldn’t be luckier to have had the experience of working with Jonathan Goldsmith in the two arrangements on my latest album, “Accelerate”. He really brought forward the emotion behind the lyrics and melody with his haunting string arrangements.
My personal favourite song on the entire album is the alternate-version of “Tuesday’s Coming” (the last track) because somewhere hidden through the chaos and confusion in the strings is the honest truth behind my music.
I was in a fragile place emotionally and metaphorically and I feel it was truly captured in this recording.
Not only was I inspired by all of the new people I met, I was also inspired by living alone for the first time in a part of the city I had never explored. I was also inspired by the courage that I never knew I had. I decided to use Tuesday as a reference because everybody has Tuesday’s in their lives. It is always coming. It never stops, and neither do the challenges you are faced with in life.

Hi! I am so happy to announce that (FINALLY) I will have my Accelerate CD available to hold (and own)! It’s been a long process, but we’ve finally taken the CD to manufacturing after perfecting the album design work and making small adjustments to the final mixes and masters. I am so proud of this album and can’t wait to share the 3D thing with all of you!
I’ll be selling them for $15 a copy and will try to always have a few on me at all times.
So many wonderful things have happened recently!
Do you live in the east end of Toronto? There’s a wonderful Farmer’s Market that pops up every Wednesday until the end of October at Fairmount Park (on Gerrard just east of Coxwell). Mikey and I (the High Winds) will be featured as musicians there every now and again so keep your eyes peeled for us on their website: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fairmount-Park-Farmers-Market/469053189832194?fref=ts
Here’s a video of one of our jazz tunes from a few weeks ago:
I’ve been a busy bee buzzing from Muskoka to Haliburton every chance I get and am so excited to have some new songs to share with you! Check back soon for a list of some fall dates for our gigs.
If you’re looking to see us perform later this month, canoe your butt to La Vérendrye in Northern Quebec where the High Winds will be camping for 15 days. We are bringing both of our mini guitars (“Tammy” the yamaha and “Baby” my taylor… don’t ask) to sing to the bears and moose!!
Thanks for stopping by, and see you in September!!

We just got back to Toronto from our first Western Canada Tour and it was absolutely amazing!! We managed to play 7 shows in 10 days and still spend our days snowboarding, writing music and exploring the mountains. Our first show was at one of the most amazing communal houses I’ve ever seen. There was a party of about 30 twenty-something-year-olds sharing beers and pizza and once Mikey and I hit the stage everyone took a seat to enjoy some original music. What a warm welcome to the west!!! We were blown away with everyone’s appreciation for our music and performance. After our set we sold our cds and partied with everyone until early morning! Here’s a video of us warming up for the performance:
High Winds warm up
Then we spent a day rehearsing our music with a good friend (and outstanding trombone player) Carsten Rubling.
Early morning the next day we hit the road to Canmore to play a show in Bow Valley Provincial Park for the local employees. This show was probably my favourite of them all. Everyone brought different cheese plates, fruit baskets and salads. Mike and I played 2 sets of original music and some of our favourite jazz standards and Carsten joined us on the moog for a few tunes. We could actually see the mountains from where we were sitting on our stage.
Mike and I had a breathtaking drive on Spray Lake road through hundreds of mountains.
We found a little hiking trail into Troll Falls
After that we drove into Banff to play our 4 gigs at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.
Banff was stunning and it was hard to leave but we were super excited about playing our last show in Rocky Mountain House. We were welcomed by 40 plus enthusiastic music fans who treated us so well. We sold out of our cds and filled our bellies with delicious treats and wine!
Thank you to everyone who gave us their beds, made us coffee and shared their enthusiasm about music with us. We will for SURE be back as soon as we can!

Howdy! The “High Winds” are due west!
Mike and I are SO excited to be announcing our first Western-Canada tour! We are starting off in Calgary for a show downtown Saturday March 9th (details TBA) and then heading to Banff to play a couple shows at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel! After we hit the slopes and spa while singing some jazz we’re headed up to Rocky Mountain House where we’ll be playing a sweet show for the locals! Then we’re off to BC!
We’re still ironing out final details so check back before Friday for an official list of our gigs!
As always, lots of love!

This summer has been a blast! I’ve been writing more songs than I know what to do with!
For Labour Day my man and I took off to Algonquin Park and canoed Tea Lake and Biggar. Northern Ontario is SO beautiful.

Mike Lindburg and I are going to be playing a private birthday party tomorrow at the Balmy Beach club in the Beaches. It has been so lovely looking back at all of the jazz charts that have been hidden away in boxes since I graduated Humber College. We’ll be playing public venues soon – hold tight!!
HOWDY! I’ve been living up north in Haliburton Ontario for the past little while. A break from the city is exactly what I needed to cure my writer’s block. The lake’s warm, my beers are cold, the sun is shining and my guitar sounds better and more inviting than ever. Here’s a little instrumental tune I wrote a week ago after canoeing and swimming through some beautiful rapids.

This weekend I also saw my friend’s band Bravestation play their album release show at the Drake. If you want to hear something totally unique check our their new album “Giants & Dreamers”.

Hey!! IT’S SPRING!!! I have some lovely news. I will be playing a show in New York City on April 27th, 2012. The venue is called “The Livingroom” and I’m on at 7:30pm. Please tell your friends and I hope to see some of you out there!
I also had the absolute pleasure to perform with a friend of mine, Cat Lewis last Thursday evening. Cat is an outstanding singer, songwriter and performer from Toronto who is about to hit the music scene BIG time once he’s done his B.Mus. I’ve been fortunate enough to sing with him for the past two years at Humber College and was delighted when he asked me to share the stage for his Final Recital at Humber College. Please check out his website and go see one of his live shows for an unreal musical experience. http://www.catlewismusic.com/
Enjoy the weather! Go have a patio beer and make sure to invite me with you!!
